In short
- You can read everything here without an account.
- Your theme, lesson progress and recent searches stay in your browser and are never sent to us.
- Where the law requires consent, nothing that measures your visit and no advertising starts until you agree.
- If you join the discussions, your e-mail address is never shown.
- You can ask what data we hold about you, and have it corrected or deleted.
This policy explains what personal data Gixian handles. Gixian is published by its publisher.
What the site stores about you
Reading the site does not require an account. Like any website, our servers record technical information about each request (for example the address of the page, the time and your IP address) in logs that we use to keep the site secure and working.
What stays in your browser
Your browser keeps your light or dark theme, the lessons you marked as done and your last few searches, so the site can offer them again. They stay on your device and are never sent to us. The Cookie policy lists everything the site stores, with its name.
Accounts and discussions
If you create an account to take part in discussions we keep your e-mail address, your name, a password (stored only in scrambled form), the username you choose and everything you post, vote for or report. Your username, short biography, reputation score and posts are public; your e-mail address is never shown. To fight spam we also keep a scrambled form of the IP address of each post, which is deleted after 90 days, and a record of moderation decisions. You can ask for a copy of your data or for your account to be closed at any time, and anyone can ask for content to be removed with the Report content form.
Visit counts on this site
With your consent, where the law requires it, we count visits on our own server to see which pages are read and for how long. For each visit we record the pages you open, how long you stay and how far you scroll, where you came from, your device type, browser, screen size, language and time zone, and a scrambled form of your IP address that is changed every day and cannot be turned back into the address. To tell visits apart a random identifier is kept in your browser's storage; it is not a cookie and it is not shared with anyone. Raw records are deleted after 400 days and only totals are kept. Nothing is recorded before you agree, a Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track signal from your browser is treated as a refusal, and you can change your choice at any time with Privacy choices, which also removes the identifier from your browser.
Newsletter
If you subscribe to the newsletter we keep your e-mail address, the page you signed up on and the date, and we send you a message to confirm it: nothing is sent until you do. Every newsletter has an unsubscribe link, and you can also write to us to be removed. We use the address only to send the newsletter.
Page feedback
If you answer “Was this helpful?” at the end of a page, we keep your answer, the reason you chose (if any) and the date. We do not keep your name, e-mail address or IP address with it, so it cannot be traced back to you. We use the answers to find pages that need updating.
Contacting us
If you write to us, or send a request with the Report content form, we keep your message and address to answer it, and for as long as needed to deal with the matter.
Your rights
You can ask us what data we hold about you, to correct it, or to delete it, and you may object to how we use it. Write to info@gixian.com. You may also complain to your local data protection authority.
Changes
If we start using other services, we will update this policy and the Cookie policy before they go live. Last updated 16 October 2026.
